Stop Wasting Your Energy! Focus on What Truly Matters.

As a mindfulness coach, I see many clients feeling overwhelmed, frustrated, and stuck in cycles of avoidance when faced with difficult decisions or problems. It’s easy to get caught up in these emotions, but staying there drains your energy and blocks you from moving forward. The key to breaking free is to shift your focus from the problem to a clear intention and desired emotional state. Here’s how to do it.

Recognizing the Patterns of Avoidance

When faced with uncertainty, many of us fall into one of three common emotional patterns:

  • Overwhelm and Procrastination: You’re paralyzed by too many choices or tasks, leading to thoughts like, “I’ll figure it out later.” This just postpones action and creates more stress.

  • Angry Frustration: You’re tired of dealing with the same issue over and over, feeling like, “Why won’t this problem go away already?” This frustration drains energy and prevents meaningful progress.

  • Irritated Submission: You know something needs to change, but you’re unsure where to start. You feel stuck in indecision and keep avoiding the problem.

These patterns stem from a lack of clarity about what you want and how you want to feel. Without this clarity, it’s easy to stay focused on “The Stuck,” wasting valuable time and energy.

Shifting Focus: From Problem to Desired Outcome

To move out of these patterns, it’s essential to redirect your focus from the problem to what you want to achieve:

  1. Define Your Desired Outcome: Get clear on what a successful resolution looks like for you. Ask yourself, “What do I want to achieve?” This helps cut through overwhelm and provides a direction for your energy.

  2. Decide How You Want to Feel: Consider the emotions you want to experience once you reach your goal—whether it’s peace, empowerment, or relief. Knowing how you want to feel keeps you motivated and aligned with your true needs.

  3. Take Aligned Action: With a clear intention and desired emotional state, you can shift from avoidance to action. Your focus moves away from the problem and toward meaningful steps that drive progress. As you take these steps, you’ll find that intuitive insights naturally guide you on what to do next.

Conclusion: Direct Your Energy Where It Matters

Moving from avoidance to action isn’t about forcing yourself to “just do it”; it’s about thoughtfully deciding what you want and how you want to feel. When you know your desired outcome and emotional state, you can redirect your focus, regain your energy, and create authentic forward momentum.
